Overview

OBJ Model Importing is a creative feature in Hytale that allows players to import external 3D models in OBJ format and convert them into fully editable voxel structures inside the game. This system bridges traditional 3D modeling workflows with Hytale’s block-based world design, significantly expanding creative possibilities.

How It Works

The import process is handled entirely through Hytale’s Creative Mode tools and does not require external mods or plugins.

Accessing the Import Tool

  1. Open Creative Mode.
  2. Navigate to World Tools.
  3. Select Import OBJ.

This opens a modal window where the import settings can be configured.

Selecting a Model

Players can choose any locally stored .obj file from their computer. The model can be created using common 3D modeling software or downloaded from online libraries.

Scaling the Model

  • The size input defines the height of the model in blocks.
  • The entire model is scaled proportionally based on this height.
  • Example: Setting the height to 200 will resize the model so its vertical dimension equals 200 blocks in-game.

Block Assignment

During import, players must select a block type to fill the model.

  • Example: Rock_Stone
  • The entire model is initially voxelized using the chosen block.
  • After placement, individual blocks and colors can be edited using creative tools.

Placement and Editing

Once imported, the model becomes a brush.

  • Clicking with the brush places the voxelized structure into the world.
  • The structure behaves like any other voxel build.
  • Players can replace blocks, recolor sections, or reshape parts of the model after placement.
